Sports Council Headquarters

London

This project, for the newly established English Sports Council, involved the extension and refurbishment of the ground floor of their headquarters in central London. In addition to rationalising the use of the area our scheme took advantage of the long street frontage to identify the presence of the organization and communicate its function to the passing public.

The built scheme consists of two distinct areas, one semi-public and one semi-private, separated by a storage wall which incorporates the new services.

The entire area along the street frontage has been opened out with full height frameless glazing to create an enlarged reception area and a new gallery space for exhibitions of sports related photography, art and architecture.

The gallery is equipped with a simple stainless steel display system designed by Simon Conder. The centre piece of the gallery is a video wall that faces the street and allows passers-by to watch sporting events.
